Renovation instead of demolition. Prestigious distinction for "upcycled skyscraper"
The ambitious project was designed by architects from the Danish studio 3XN. The building's revitalization was completed in 2022. 65 percent of the building's original structure and 98 percent of its core were preserved. The entire project avoided over 12,000 tons of CO2 emissions.

The project was recognized by the jury of the international Earthshot Prize 2025 competition, founded by Prince William in 2020. It rewards visionary and innovative solutions for environmental protection.
“By demonstrating that regeneration can replace demolition in a way that is both sustainable and commercially viable, Quay Quarter Tower provides an inspiring model for other metropolises where similar projects are already underway,” the jury wrote in its decision.

The renovation of Quay Quarter Tower not only ensured the building's durability but also made it more functional. Office space increased from 45,000 to 102,000 square meters, allowing it to accommodate up to 9,000 people, down from the previous 4,500.
“We extended the life of this building by decades, reduced its carbon footprint by half, and created a more engaging workplace for thousands of people,” says Fred Holt of 3XN, who led the project.
